Why the Ram 2500. A heavy-duty truck built around payload.
The 2500 is where a Ram becomes a heavy-duty truck: a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 as standard, a Cummins turbo diesel on the options list, and a five-link coil-spring rear suspension that Ram calls class-exclusive (the Payload Upgrade Package swaps in leaf springs).
These four are worth knowing before you compare trims.
Payload rating
Up to 4,580 lb with the HEMI V8 and the $835 Payload Upgrade Package, which Ram rates best in class for a gas truck.
Cummins torque
The 6.7-liter Cummins High-Output makes 1,075 lb-ft at 1,800 rpm and is rated to tow up to 20,000 lb.
Coil springs out back
A five-link coil rear suspension, with auto-leveling rear air available on Rebel, Laramie and both Limited trims.
A 14.5-inch screen
The largest touchscreen in the class, by Ram's count, standard on the Limited and Limited Longhorn.
New on the 2027 Ram 2500.
The 2027 Ram 2500 keeps the current body, cabs and engines. Ram's changes are aimed at work: more payload for gas trucks, a diesel Power Wagon, and option packages that are simpler to add.
These are the changes Ram lists for the model year.

Lineup
A diesel Power Wagon. The Power Wagon can now be ordered with the 6.7-liter Cummins High-Output, rated up to 19,630 lb of towing and 2,930 lb of payload.
Capability
Payload Upgrade Package. An $835 package for HEMI trucks adds a 3500 frame, leaf springs and an anti-spin rear differential, raising GVWR to 11,040 lb and payload to 4,580 lb.
Design
A new V8 badge. HEMI trucks get Ram's new V8 fender badge, in Satin Black on Tradesman, Black Express, Warlock, Rebel, Power Wagon and Night Edition trucks.
Packages
Easier to option. Night Edition and Sport Appearance now pair with the Level 1 and Level 2 groups, the Warn winch is a standalone option on HEMI Rebel and Power Wagon, and more Laramies can be ordered with RamBox.

Exterior. Nine trims, each with its own face.
Big Horn and Laramie wear chrome grilles, while Black Express and Warlock go dark. Rebel and Power Wagon add a two-tone paint scheme with a Diamond Black lower body, skid plates and off-road tires, so the work trucks and the trail trucks are easy to tell apart.
The bed comes in 6-ft 4-in or 8-ft lengths. RamBox storage bins in the bed rails are standard on the Limited and Limited Longhorn, and Crew Cabs with the 8-ft bed can be ordered with a 50-gallon fuel tank, which Ram rates best in class.
- Power-folding convex trailer-tow mirrors, which Ram calls class-exclusive
- RamBox bed storage, standard on Limited and Limited Longhorn
- Two-tone paint, standard on Rebel and Power Wagon

Performance. HEMI or Cummins.
Every trim starts with the 6.4-liter HEMI V8: 405 hp, 429 lb-ft and an eight-speed automatic. It is the engine behind the 4,580-lb payload rating, and it tows up to 17,750 lb.
The 6.7-liter Cummins High-Output turbo diesel adds $12,495 and brings 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft at 1,800 rpm, for up to 20,000 lb of towing. It is the only engine in the Mega Cab and, new for 2027, an option on the Power Wagon. A trailer brake controller, Trailer Sway Damping and snowplow prep come on every 2500.
- Up to 20,000 lb of towing with the Cummins High-Output
- Auto-leveling rear air suspension on Rebel, Laramie and Limited
- 360-degree camera and trailer reverse guidance in the Towing Technology Group

Interior. Screens, seats and the Mega Cab.
Uconnect 5 runs on an 8.4, 12 or 14.5-inch touchscreen depending on trim, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Laramie and up get a 12-inch digital cluster, and the Limited and Limited Longhorn add a 10.25-inch passenger screen and two wireless charging pads.
The Crew Cab has 40.2 inches of rear legroom. The Mega Cab, offered on Laramie, Limited and Limited Longhorn, stretches that to 43.1 inches, and its rear seats recline, which Ram says no other truck in the class offers.
- 8.4, 12 or 14.5-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreens
- Alpine nine-speaker audio on Laramie, Harman Kardon 17-speaker on Limited
- Mega Cab rear seats that recline, on Laramie and both Limited trims
2027 Ram 2500 paint colors.
Eight colors for 2027, shown on a Laramie Crew Cab (Ceramic Gray on a Warlock). Rebel and Power Wagon also offer each color as a two-tone over a Diamond Black lower body.
